Any Yellow Will Do — the campaign frame

The idea

A café marks International Women’s Day with a pink cupcake.

Any yellow will do.

Brief

Mark International Women’s Day across three sites with no media budget.

Insight

A day about solidarity is usually sold as a product. Solidarity is something people do, not something they buy.

Device

Ask the city to wear one colour. No purchase, no hashtag, no permission needed.

A campaign you joined by getting dressed.

Frame one

A campaign you joined by getting dressed.

The entry price is a jumper you already own. Nothing to buy, nothing to post, no proof of purchase — the participation is the point.

One colour, no gradient

Everyday clothes, not styled

Ran across three sites in one day

Frame two

Yellow is the only art direction the campaign needed.

One rule held across every asset, in-store and out: if it isn’t yellow, it isn’t the campaign. That made it reproducible by anyone, including customers.

Flat colour blocking

Type does the work, not the photography

No media spend at any point

Yellow is the only art direction the campaign needed.
Irish Independent feature

The result

A national paper covered it, and nobody paid for that.

The Irish Independent picked the campaign up on its own. Earned coverage is the only kind that can’t be bought with a bigger budget, and it is the reason a €0 campaign outran ones that cost money.

People turned up in yellow without being asked twice — customers, not models, documented rather than staged. That is the only real measure of whether a participation idea works.

Irish Independent  ·  earned, not placed

Why it worked

Three things this campaign refused to do.

The result

Zero media spend, national press.

One colour, three sites, one day. A campaign the city could join by opening a wardrobe, and a national feature that arrived without a single euro of media behind it.
