Velour · self-initiated · an invented beauty brand

Wear it badly. It won’t.

A beauty brand built from a blank page — name, identity, product range, campaign, UGC and billboard — on the one thing the category tries to hide.

Holds from macro to billboard

Wear it badly. It won't.

The idea

Smudged, transferred lipstick is a flaw to retouch out.

The night is the test. The colour survives it.

Brief

Invent a beauty brand from nothing, and take it far enough to prove the full range of the work.

Insight

A smudge is the only real evidence that someone wore it and lived a night in it.

Voice

Written as a deadpan lab report — the product on trial, the night as the evidence.

The claim and the proof sit in the same frame.

The hero

The claim and the proof sit in the same frame.

She’s been through a night and the colour hasn’t moved. Nothing in the image asks to be admired — it asks to be checked.

No gloss retouch, wear left in

One shade, one finish, one grade

The device

A beauty ad written as quality control.

Hour 00 to hour 09, logged like a lab test. The category sells feeling; this sells evidence, and the deadpan is what makes it funny.

Timestamps, not adjectives

No claim without an observation

A beauty ad written as quality control.
Three shades, one finish, one argument.

The range

Three shades, one finish, one argument.

A range extension that doesn’t dilute the idea: the shades change, the wear test doesn’t. Same voice, same grade, same test. Adriatic, Black Mission, Panachée.

Name, logotype, palette

Packaging and product design

The hard part · one face, held

The same woman in every frame, built once as a reference set.

Face, expressions and colour are specified before any campaign frame is made, then cast into every shot. It’s the difference between a campaign and a folder of nice images.

Reference sheet built first

One shade and one finish locked across the whole set

Reusable for weeks of content without a second shoot

The same woman in every frame, built once as a reference set.

The campaign set

Five frames, each one a different kind of evidence.

Shot like a face rather than a swatch, so the set reads as a fashion campaign that happens to be selling a lipstick.

01

The finish, at one to one

02

A fig, bitten. Nothing transferred

03

Shot like a face, not a swatch

04

The only application shot

05

Hour six. The night itself

Out of home

The same idea, holding at billboard scale.

An idea that only works in a 4:5 crop isn’t a campaign. This one survives being stretched to 3:1 and read from a car.

Velour billboard, 3:1

3:1  ·  the line carries the whole frame, the product appears once

Creator content

The same brand, dressed down for the feed.

Creator-style content that looks handheld and unpolished on purpose, without breaking the shade, the voice or the wear-test idea. Brands need the polished campaign and the scrappy feed version — most people can only make one of them.

Creator content

UGC

Same brand, same shade

UGC  ·  film

It had to survive being spoken

Creator content

UGC

The unglamorous half of a brand world

How it was made

A whole brand world, in a day, alone.

What it proves

A complete brand world, from a blank page.

Name, identity, product range, packaging, a five-frame campaign, creator content and a billboard — one coherent world, invented and produced in a day without a shoot. Self-initiated, so every decision in it is mine.
